International Airports in Japan Internationale Luchthavens in Japan
Japan has 3 major international airports. Figure out which is the most suited for your needs. If you need to be in a more rural city, you will want to check domestic connections. It is not necessarily the international airport that is closest to your destination that will give you the most convenient schedule.
You also might want to find a carrier that can take you in to one airport and take you out from another one.

If you make domestic connections when arriving, you will have to clear customs with your luggage at your first Japanese airport.

Japan heeft 3 grote internationale luchthavens. Je gaat best na welke het meest geschikt is voor jouw reis. Als je in een landelijke stad moet zijn, moet je zeker de lokale verbinding nagaan. Het is niet noodzakelijk de internationale luchthaven die het dichtste bij is die de eenvoudigste verbinding zal opleveren.
Je kan eventueel ook een luchtvaartmaatschappij zoeken die je kan terug vliegen vanaf een andere luchthaven dan waar je toekwam.

Indien je bij je aankomst een binnenlandse verbinding maakt, moet je met je bagage door de douane op de eerste Japanse luchthaven.

Narita (NRT) Narita (NRT)
  • 75 min per bus/trein van centraal Tokio.
  • Narita heeft weinig binnenlandse verbindingen.
  • Tokio's binnenlandse luchthaven is "Haneda" (HND).
  • De verbinding Narita-Haneda vraagt ongeveer 90 minuten per bus/trein.
  • Vele hotels zijn vanuit de vlieghaven van Narita bereikbaar met de Limousine Bus (niet alle bestemmingen worden tijdens de ganse dag aangeboden).
    Een alternatief is om de Limousine Bus te gebruiken tot Tokyo City Air Terminal (TCAT) of de JR Narita Express tot Tokio, Shinagawa of Shinjuku. Vanaf daar wandel je of neem je een taxi naar je hotel.

  • About 1 hour by bus/train from Osaka and Kyoto.
  • Kankuu has domestic flights.
  • The real domestic airport in Osaka is "Itami" (ITM).
  • Kankuu-Itami takes about 90 minutes by bus/train.

  • Its design goals included easy transfer from international to domestic flights, but due to its relative to proximity to Tokyo, there are no flights to Haneda airport.

The Japanese public transportation system is characterized by an abundance of private companies that provide public transportation services in a specific area. In general the services of these companies are coordinated rather well and the traveler is often not aware that he is changing form the service system of one company into that of another one.

In the Tokyo area these companies also work together on a single payment system and the IC-cards "PASMO" and "SUICA" are usable for almost all train and bus connections in the greater Tokyo area.

Osaka has a similar single payment system with "PiTaPa" and "ICOCA".

As "SUICA" and "ICOCA" originate with the respective JR-group companies, the Tokyo "SUICA" cards can be used on JR lines in Osaka and the Osaka "ICOCA" can be used on JR-lines in Tokyo.

Het Japanse openbaarvervoer kent een overvloed aan prive bedrijven die openbaarvervoer aanbieden in een specifiek gebied. Over het algemeen zijn de verbindingen goed op elkaar afgestemd, de reiziger is er zich dikwijls niet van bewust dat hij overschakelt van het systeem van het ene bedrijf naar dat van een ander.

In Tokio werken al deze bedrijven ook nog eens samen in een gemeenschappelijk betaalsysteem. De IC-kaarten "PASMO" en "SUICA" zijn op bijna alle trein- en busverbindingen in "groot" Tokio bruikbaar.

Osaka heeft een gelijkaardig gemeenschappelijk betaalsysteem met "PiTaPa" and "ICOCA".

Gezien "SUICA" en "ICOCA" oorspronkelijk van de JR-groep komen, kan de Tokio "SUICA" kaart op de JR-treinen in Osaka gebruikt worden en de Osaka "ICOCA" kaart op de JR-treinen in Tokio gebruikt worden.
